Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is a drug-less, non-surgical branch of the healing arts, that uses manipulation for healing. Most insurance companies today, cover at least some of the cost of chiropractic care and chiropractors are now being integrated into health care teams at large medical centers. The chiropractic healing system is based on the belief that the nervous system is a very important determinant of health and that many diseases are caused by the misalignments of the vertebrae that can be corrected by manipulating the spine. These misalignments are called subluxations and refer to a situation in which there is incomplete dislocation of the vertebrae that may alter contact between joint surfaces and affect nerve function. The detection and correction of these subluxations is at the heart of chiropractic practice.

Spinal mobilization has been shown to have a number of physiological effects, such as reduction of muscle spasm, reduction of pain and improvement of movement. Chiropractic care is especially helpful for any musculoskeletal problem, especially those related to the spine. Some conditions for which it is helpful include:

** back pain
** arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis or fasciitis
** peripheral neuritis (arm & leg pain)

** scoliosis, kyphosis
** carpal tunnel syndrome
** traumatic injuries such as whiplash or back sprain
** headaches
** fibromyalgia
** neck pain
** acute and chronic pain

Research has demonstrated that chiropractic care versus medical care in the treatment of low back pain was considerably less expensive. Further, it can negate the need for more intrusive procedures.

Herbals & Nutritional Supplements

Thousands of research studies have all indicated that specific nutrients appear to play an important role in the prevention of a number of chronic degenerative diseases common in our society. Supplements can be used to prevent disease and to slow aging. Further, there is strong evidence that most Americans do not eat the recommended number of servings of fruits and vegetables daily (5 vegetables and 3 fruits). Experts claim that people often make food choices that are nutritionally poor, adding too much fat and sugar to their diets and obtaining less than optimal intakes of vitamins, minerals, and disease-fighting phytochemicals.Herbal medicines can be very effective for many common problems, but not all herbs are safe or effective. While a herb may be less expensive and have fewer side effects than prescription drugs, caution is necessary.

Vitamins, minerals and herbs are a powerful resource for health and well-being. Many people use them for self-care. However, even if most supplements and herbs are derived from natural sources, they can sometimes have side effects or be contraindicated in certain situations. For example there may be an interaction between an herbal medication and a prescription drug. Thus, the advice and consultation of a health care professional is very important.

Dr. Chabot can advise you on the best supplementation program for you. She keeps up to date on the latest research concerning nutritional supplements and herbal medications, their indications, side effects and modes of action. She has taken nutritional courses and been certified as a Herbalist since 1997.

Many people take vitamin and mineral supplements to enhance their health, but recent research provides additional reasons for using a variety of supplements, including herbal medications, for both prevention and healing. Medical experts and researchers agree that many chronic health problems can be avoided through the adoption of a healthier lifestyle, including optimal nutrition, supported by supplements.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy, a systematic manipulation of the soft tissue of the body, increases blood and lymph flow, reduces stress, and improves musculoskeletal health. Having regular massages not only relieves stress, but can also reduce pain, improve a depressed mood and improve sleep. Therapeutically, massage is believed to affect all body systems, from circulation to metabolism. This includes improvement in the elasticity and tone of the skin, relaxation of the muscles, reduction of pain in muscles and joints, facilitation of respiration, enhancement of digestive processes, decrease in blood pressure, and increase in blood and lymph circulation. Recent research suggests that massage therapy may reduce stress hormones, thus improving immune function.

Massage therapy has been used to treat a long list of conditions, but is especially useful for musculoskeletal pain and stress. It is often used to restore healthy structure and function following injury and to promote recovery from fatigue following exercise. It reduces swelling and fluid retention and may slow the progress of varicose veins. Massage has been useful for some headaches and promotes sinus drainage.

One half hour and One hour massages are available.

Advanced Energy Work

Energy work is a therapy that focuses on the energy of the body. There are a variety of therapeutic techniques based on intentionally directing healing energy to the patient through the hands of the therapist. These techniques are used for stress reduction and relaxation that helps the body come into a natural state of balance so that self-healing can take place. These techniques are based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If our life force energy is high, we are more capable of being healthy and happy, but if it is low, we are more likely to get sick or to feel stress. The methods replenish this life energy, clearing blockages to natural flow and balancing the energy to facilitate healing.

Therapeutic sessions last about 30 to 40 minutes and are conducted with the patient, fully clothed, and lying on a treatment table. During the session, the therapist intentionally uses her hands to replenish the patient’s energy, clear blockages in the flow of energy and balance the patient’s energy. This is accomplished by either light touch or holding the hands 2 to 6 inches from the body, using recognized therapeutic techniques.

Energy work has been shown, through research, to be very effective in reducing stress and anxiety, relieving pain and facilitating healing. Energy work is recommended for persons who are:

  • Feeling anxious and stressed
  • Experiencing chronic pain
  • Having difficulty sleeping
  • Recovering from surgery or an illness
  • Experiencing fatigue
  • Feeling depressed or “burned out”

Following energy work, patients report feeling very relaxed, but yet revitalized; Energy is increased, comfort is restored, and a sense of well-being occurs.

Hypnotherapy

Clinical hypnosis is a therapy in which a qualified health professional gives the patient carefully worded instructions to follow in order to enter a state of deep relaxation. In this hypnotic state, the patient is aware of everything that is going on and is in complete control, but becomes highly focused and attentive to the therapeutic suggestions. Hypnotherapy is a combination of hypnosis and therapeutic intervention, effective in treating many physical, mental and psychosomatic disorders. Hypnotherapy results are overwhelmingly positive and effective. Countless success stories exist attesting to the benefits of this technique. Many people have relieved their pain, managed their stress, lost weight, stopped smoking, achieved better sleep or improved their health and well-being through its use. Hypnotherapy services are available for:

** Pain Relief
** Stress Management
** Weight Control
** Insomnia Relief
** Smoking Cessation
** Habit Change
** Preparation for Surgery or Medical Procedures
** Enhanced Healing
** Motivation

Special Programs are available for: WEIGHT LOSS, SMOKING CESSATION, PAIN CONTROL, STRESS MANAGEMENT and INSOMNIA. These programs include individualized hypnotherapy sessions, health recommendations and nutritional supplements when appropriate.
